Chief Leabua Jonathan: 30 years since his death
A military coup deposes the Lesotho Government. Prime Minister Chief Leabua Jonathan (30 October 1914 – 5 April 1987) was Lesotho's only leader from 1966 when they gained independence from Britain until he was ousted in a military coup in 1986. In the early years he maintained cordial relations with South Africa until he angered them in 1982 by allowing communist emmisaries into Lesotho (Museum Africa)
